  • What happens in the free consultation?
The free consultation is an opportunity for you and your potential therapist to see if you are a good fit. You will share briefly why you are seeking therapy and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Your therapist will share about their therapeutic approach and ask questions relevant to your potential fit together. This is when you will also discuss and identify your session fee. If you and your therapist decide you are a good fit, you will then schedule your first session.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We are not in-network with insurance. However, we do provide superbills each month that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Out-of-network coverage varies by insurance carrier and plan. Contact your insurance carrier to see your specific coverage. Additionally, our therapists do provide a number of low-cost spots (starting at $20 per session) to make services accessible to marginalized folks who are in financial need. You may be wondering why we do not accept insurance. Unfortunately, the US healthcare system is not very generous to therapists and insurance generally does not currently pay Associate therapists a living wage. After the amount of time, energy, and money our Associates spend on their education, it is very important to us that they make a living wage.
  • What are your therapy fees?
Our sliding scale fees are: $100-160 for individual sessions $150-220 for couples sessions We do offer a number of low-cost spots (starting at $20 per session) to make services accessible to marginalized folks who are in financial need. Please do not hesitate to reach out to alexa@mixedemotions.care if you have any questions.
  • How do I pay for sessions?
Upon scheduling your first session with your therapist, they will add you to SimplePractice, our online scheduling system, and send you forms to complete - including a payment form. You will input your credit card information so that your therapist can charge your card after each session.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Depending on your therapist, they may offer a 24 or 48 hour cancellation policy. This means that you must cancel before 24 or 48 hours prior to your session time to not get charged for your session time. Please clarify with your therapist what policy they abide by. As our therapists are paid per session, it is important they have notice for cancellations and get paid for late cancellations. Please note: If you receive insurance reimbursement, insurance does not reimbursed for cancelled sessions.
